Friday Night Movie Nights!

LAVA is bringing back the popular movie nights on Main Street, closing the road to traffic on Friday nights in August. First up is Rango.

Rango, an ordinary chameleon minding his own business, accidentally, and serendipitously, winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless Wild West outpost in desperate need of a new sheriff. From the director of Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango is full of fun, surprises, and a saddlebag’s worth of homages to well known westerns.

Starring Johnny Depp as the voice of Rango, Isla Fisher as the voice of Beans, Ned Beatty as the voice of the Mayor, and Timothy Olyphant as the voice of the Spirit of the West.

Linden Tree will be open every Friday in August until 8:00 p.m. (Movie starts at 8:30)

Sue Fliess Book Launch

Tons of TrucksWe are thrilled to welcome favorite local author Sue Fliess with the launch of her latest book, “Tons of Trucks!”

Some advance press for this engaging book: “I like how Fliess created a book that doesn’t have your usual array of trucks. There are street sweepers, moving trucks, tar trucks…and army crew trucks. Toddlers will delight in this fun, and engaging look at trucks.”  (Literacy Toolbox Review)

Classic Book Recommendations

MPMaryPoppinsIf you watched the Broadway San Jose musical in June, you and your kids might be interested in reading the original Mary Poppins series by P.L. Travers, whose books have been family favorites for over seventy years.

Did Mary really recommend “a spoonful of sugar?” We bet your grandparents remember a different version of the story!
starcatchers
peterpanThere are several other classic series that have also been produced as movies and plays, including Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie and the more recent Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson (currently on stage in New York City). These are great summer reading series and we have them on the shelves at Linden Tree.

We know you have the rest of those summer reading lists in hand, so let us know which titles you are looking for so you can check at least one “to-do” off your list! No magic necessary.
