Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is an incredibly funny and poignant twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming-out story—wrapped in a geek romance—from debut author Becky Albertalli. Think You’ve Got Mail with gay teen boys.

Sixteen-year-old (and not-so-openly gay) Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email from his secret Gmail account falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight.

Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown, Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business.

Worse, it’ll compromise the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated.

Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.

The best kind of book challenges your assumptions and opens your eyes to a new way of thinking about the world.

The best kind of romance makes you forget age, gender, and sexual orientation and sweeps you off your feet. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is the best kind of both.

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli is a perfect gay love story. The novel starts with introducing a normal, lovable high school boy, Simon, who seems to have this perfect life… except that he’s afraid to tell anyone he’s gay. When another student, known as Blue, from his school comes out anonymously on social media, Simon reaches out to them through email. These emails result in a friendship that could possibly be something more? It isn’t long before one of Simon’s classmates discovers the truth about Simon’s sexual identity and soon enough, he finds himself being blackmailed. Follow Simon and Blue as they navigate the troubles and drama of high school while also finding happiness and peace within themselves with this lighthearted summer read! - Mia

What a stellar voice! Simon and his friends feel like my friends, and bring me back to high school in the best kind of way. Simon is authentic, he's adorable, and best of all, he's not oblivious to the intricate dance that is high school relationships. He understands people, and through his eyes, you come to understand people, too.
