The highly acclaimed novel, now in paperback! Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is an incredibly funny and poignant twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming-out story—wrapped in a geek romance—from debut author Becky Albertalli.

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight.

Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business.

Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing with, will be jeopardized.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated.

Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.

When another student, known as Blue, from his school comes out anonymously on social media, Simon reaches out to them through email. These emails result in a friendship that could possibly be something more? It isn’t long before one of Simon’s classmates discovers the truth about Simon’s sexual identity and soon enough, he finds himself being blackmailed. What a stellar voice! Simon and his friends feel like my friends, and bring me back to high school in the best kind of way. Simon is authentic, he's adorable, and best of all, he's not oblivious to the intricate dance that is high school relationships. He understands people, and through his eyes, you come to understand people, too.
