A reillustration of Margaret Wise Brown’s timeless classic The Dead Bird by award-winning artist Christian Robinson

One day, the children find a bird lying on its side with its eyes closed and no heartbeat. They are very sorry, so they decide to say good-bye. In the park, they dig a hole for the bird and cover it with warm sweet-ferns and flowers. Finally, they sing sweet songs to send the little bird on its way.

This heartwarming picture book by beloved children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown is beautifully reillustrated for a contemporary audience by the critically acclaimed, award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson.

Christian Robinson was beside himself when given the opportunity to illustrate a story by the great Margaret Wise Brown. He lives in San Francisco with three amazing roommates and a bunch of very well cared for house plants…the bonsai however faded, and was placed into the compost, they sang songs and cried. Christian has also illustrated Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena (2016 Newbery Medal Winner and 2016 Caldecott Honor Book), Rain! by Linda Ashman (2014 Ezra Jack Keats Award for New Illustrator), Josephine by Patricia Hruby Powell (2015 Coretta Scott King Honor Book and Sibert Honor Book) and Gaston by Kelly DiPucchio.
