Join us for a special storytime with author Sharon Rose as she shares her magical new picture book, Through the Garden Gate.
When Miles stumbles upon a neighbor’s mysterious gate, he steps into a world of wonder—where talking animals, fluttering fairies, and extraordinary plants await. Inspired by native ecology and brought to life through lush, timeless illustrations, this gentle adventure encourages children to look more closely at the natural world around them.
Calling all young artists ages 10-13! Join us this summer for a series of hands-on art workshops led by a trio of talented, published illustrators:
Each workshop lasts 90 minutes and costs $75. Materials (paper, pens, etc) will be provided and, at the end of each workshop, students will receive a signed copy of one of the featured illustrator’s books. Space for each workshop is limited so sign up now!
We are excited to welcome this year’s Caldecott medalist, illustrator Cátia Chien, for a special storytime! Cátia will be sharing her Caldecott Medal-winning picture book, Fireworks, written by Matthew Burgess.
Part poem, part portable fireworks display with a vertical gatefold, this POB picture book from the award-winning team of Matthew Burgess and Cátia Chien highlights the simple delights of a steamy July day in the city as two siblings eagerly await a spectacular fireworks display.
POP! As a hot day sizzles into evening, everyone on stoops and sidewalks looks skyward on this special summer night—the Fourth of July! Words and art blossom into flowers of fire across the sky, making this a perfect read for firework enthusiasts in cities and suburbs everywhere. POP! POP!
Join us for a special storytime and bug talk with entomolgist (and renowned "Beetlelady") Stephanie A. Dole! Stephanie will be sharing her new book, Bug Power: From Super Strength to Web Slinging, and will show us real-life examples of some of the bugs in her book!
What can freeze solid and come back to life? Glow in the dark? Grow their own armor? If you think these superpowers only exist in comic books and action movies, then think again! The real world is filled with bugs that have amazing abilities. In this fascinating book, readers ages 8-12 will learn about these incredible bug powers and more, including how bugs have directly inspired human inventions, such as tough armor, tiny drones and robots, and heatless lights.
It’s the next meeting of our middle grade book club for ages 9+! Led by bookseller extraordinaire Lorilee, we hope to introduce interested readers to amazing new books and the opportunity to talk about them in a fun, relaxed group setting.
This month’s book is actually many books: any book in the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland. Come talk about one of our favorite middle grade series with fellow FanWings! Please email [email protected] to RSVP.
Upcoming Meetings
Join us every Sunday morning at 10:30am in front of the store as one of our booksellers (or perhaps a local author) shares some of their favorite read-alouds. (Grab a tasty treat from our neighbors at Manresa Bread while your kids enjoy the stories!) All storytimes feature picture books and are appropriate for all ages.
We have been fortunate to host many amazing authors and illustrators–in-store, off-site, online, and at local schools–during our forty years in business. Here are a few that have visited recently:
We're looking forward to hosting more of your favorite authors and illustrators in the future!
