Binny woke up happy but nervous. It was her day to share about Diwali, the Festival of Lights!

Binny is excited to talk to her class about her favorite holiday. But she struggles to find the words.

Taking a deep breath, she tells her classmates about the fireworks that burst like stars in the night sky, leaving streaks of gold and red and green. She shares with them delicious pedas and jalebis. And she shows them clay lamps, called diyas, which look so pretty all the children ooh and aah.

About the Author

Thrity Umrigar loves cats and puppies and kids and sparklers and starry nights and ice cream and summer vacations and festivals. When she is not eating ice cream and playing with cats and dogs, she daydreams and writes award-winning books for adults and kids, including the picture books When I Carried You in My Belly and Sugar in Milk. Nidhi Chanani is an award-winning author and illustrator. Her graphic novels include Pashmina, Jukebox the Shark Princess series and the Super Boba Cafe series. She also creates picture books.
