By Breath

In P.C. Cast’s thrilling, romantic new YA fantasy, Maeve rescues a mysterious horse from the cold waters of her Scottish loch, only to discover he’s a royal kelpie, bound to ancient magic.

This is Maeve’s last summer in her favorite place: Loch Chon, Scotland. Here at her great aunt’s stables, she rides and cares for the horses she loves, paints to her heart’s content, and soaks up the magick of the Gateway to the Highlands. She’s also been hired to lead trail rides by the new, luxurious resort that shares the loch shores. Soon, she can’t resist spending more time with the resort’s heir: the enigmatic Keir, who holds an endless supply of secrets.

There is more to this loch and its magick than Maeve could have ever imagined. She discovers that the stories her great aunt and Gran raised her on, of fairy Sith and their two courts, Seelie and Unseelie, are very real indeed—especially the tales of kelpies. On land they appear to be magnificent horses with manes strung with silver bells. In the waters of Scotland’s lochs they shift to enormous water dragons who bond with their chosen Riders for life. Maeve cares for what she believes is a wounded stallion, only to discover she has befriended a royal kelpie who has been searching for his Rider. Has he found his Rider in Maeve? No kelpie has ever bonded with a human before. Can Maeve even complete the bonding or will it kill her and her kelpie?

Aided by a witch, a powerful kelpie, and two enemy Sith princes who each want to claim her heart, Maeve begins to realize there is magic that runs through her own veins. The only question is, will she survive it?
