Celebrate 50 years of Frog and Toad with this beautiful commemorative picture book edition of the first book in the series, Frog and Toad Are Friends, featuring 8 pages of photographs, sketches, and never-before-seen material from the archive.

The Caldecott Honor title Frog and Toad Are Friends was first published in 1970 and was the first of the four beloved Frog and Toad I Can Read stories. This special anniversary edition celebrates fifty years of Frog and Toad with an 8x11 hardcover picture book of Frog and Toad Are Friends featuring the original jacket and the five classic original stories (“Spring,” “The Story,” “A Lost Button,” “A Swim,” and “The Letter”) rendered in Lobel’s classic three-color artwork.Additionally, this edition features rarely seen bonus material, including archival photographs; sketches; pages from the original book dummy; the manuscript of the first story, “Spring,” (written in Lobel’s cursive on lined notebook paper!); plus a biography of Arnold Lobel and how he was inspired to write the Frog and Toad stories. This handsome edition features matte paper, remastered artwork, and a green ribbon bookmark. This is the perfect gift for collectors, fans of children’s literature, and anyone and everyone who loves Frog and Toad.

About the Author

Arnold Lobel was born in Los Angeles, CA, and grew up in Schenectady, NY. He graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He illustrated many wonderful children’s books but is arguably most beloved for his Frog and Toad stories, including the first one, Frog and Toad Are Friends, which we described at the time as “five whimsical stories about two friends in a forest.”
