The book explores civic participation from local community movements to campaigns for voting and civil rights through the history of the US. Historical topics / events covered include the American Revolution, campaigns against slavery, votes for women, workers’, and civil rights.

About the Author

Elliott Smith is a writer and editor based in Falls Church, Virginia. Elliott has written several books on US history for young people, including titles on the Revolutionary War, Civil War, slavery and its abolition, and the civil rights movement. Elliott has also written on contemporary issues such as immigration and gun control.
