Jackalope

There are places so dark, even monsters don’t dare follow.

Mark knows it’s technically kidnapping. But when his father rolls up in an unfamiliar truck, Mark doesn’t hesitate to climb in. He’d rather live with his father than finish high school under the religious thumb of his mother and her new would-be pastor boyfriend.

Mark’s father has a plan: They’ll live off the grid in the mountains, in a cabin he owns that no one, not even his ex-wife, knows about.

It’ll be an adventure.

But vicious weather, wild animals, dwindling supplies, and an unexpected injury turn the adventure into a nightmare. Mark’s father’s paranoia surges with the isolation, and in navigating their survival, Mark is faced with his own demons—his hallucinations, and a ghost that is both haunting and sustaining.
This stunning debut is a tense story of survival—survival of physical danger, broken families, and psychological demons.
